Our client is a leader in financial services in emerging markets, providing financial solutions to its customers through a network of approximately 7,500 employees via 500 branches in Botswana, Colombia, Ghana, Mozambique, Mexico, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia.
In 2017, as part of an exciting and ambitious strategy to expand their product offering into mainstream consumer and SME banking services across their footprint, our client was looking to enhance its internal governance processes across its operations in Africa. The client had 10 senior vacancies to fill in Ghana, Tanzania and Uganda, including Country Managing Directors, Chief Financial Officers, Chief Credit Officers and Heads of Internal Audit amongst others.
GCC Search were mandated to fill all 10 roles within 3 months. In order to complete the project within the time restraints, GCC Search formed a Project Team, consisting of a Project Director, two of our Associates, one of our Senior Recruitment Consultants and a Researcher, all with experience in financial services recruitment in West and East Africa.
Working closely with the Group HR Head at the client’s headquarters in South Africa, we were able to clarify the specific selection criteria and create individual project time-lines for each role, detailing each step of the process. These time-lines were then shared with the hiring managers in the relevant countries to ensure everyone understood the recruitment process and their part within it, which helped with interview scheduling and stakeholder engagement later in the process.
For an assignment as varied as this in terms of countries and roles, GCC Search utilised its entire range of sourcing and networking channels, including direct targeting of identified individuals with the right experience and profile. GCC Search also created a company micro-site for the client, including all relevant marketing material, in order to attract candidates through job vacancies posted on the Careers in Africa job-board.
As can often be the case when there are several roles at once, things changed during the assignment and some roles were removed and others added in their place. Nonetheless, the GCC Search team still managed to map candidates across Africa, Europe and North America to identify and assess suitable candidates and submit shortlists for each of the roles within the intended time frame. We are delighted to say that all the client’s roles were filled successfully within the agreed time-lines.
